WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FASHION?

 Sustainable fashion considers the environment at all stages of a product's life cycle, from design, development, materials, production, transportation, storage, marketing and sales.

Sustainable fashion brands aim to minimize the impact on the environment as much as possible. Lmimic the use of natural resources such as water, land, plants, soil and animals and use renewable energy including wind and solar energy.
Sustainable pieces support good ethics, focusing on improving working conditions for all people involved in creating a piece.
Mwani is a brand that chooses to improve livelihoods, one colored piece at a time.

Sustainable fashion and Organic Cotton

Many sustainable fashion brands use organic cotton as it uses much less water (mainly rainfall) compared to conventional cotton. It is not treated with chemicals such as pesticides, fertilizers or insecticides, which can negatively impact farmers, consumers and the environment.
Organic cotton is grown all over the world, from China to Turkey to the US. Other sustainable fibers include: jute, hemp, silk, bamboo and wool. The popularity of organic clothing is increasing as consumers start to become more aware of its benefits.
Another way to protect the environment is to reduce waste. We took advantage of all the fabric scraps!
These can improve waste, improving standard procedures in cutting to get the most out of the cloth, making clothes just to order and recycling the cuts, turning them into other products.

How to support sustainable fashion?

  • Renting, lending and exchanging clothes;
  • Buy second-hand or vintage clothes;
  • Order made-to-measure clothes;
  • Buy clothes made from natural fibers that can be easily recycled;
  • Deconstruct and recycle unwanted clothes to make them new again;
  • Invest in high-quality, durable, and timeless clothing designs;
  • Choose ecological detergents.

Sustainable fashion recognizes the negative impacts that the traditional fashion industry can have on the environment, communities and the global economy, and seeks alternatives to mitigate these problems. It is a response to the rapid production and excessive consumption that characterize the conventional fashion industry and aims to transform this industry into one that is more environmentally friendly, socially responsible and focused on the conscious consumer.
